Philip Zephyr (Protagonist, 28-33) is a medical researcher caught between trying to build a new family and salvage an old one. He is supporting a wife and a young daughter while also trying to care for and watch over his aging father Frank. A history of poor health in his family has inspired him to pursue science and attempt to understand the mechanisms that control the human body, specifically the degenerative process of aging. Throughout his life, Philip has been driven by an insatiable thirst for knowledge but also by a desire for success and recognition. This motivates his impatience and willingness to break conventional protocols. He shatters the stereotype of a stiff in a white lab coat.
